Overview

What students can expect

Through the Behavior Technician program, you will receive the training needed to become a paraprofessional in the field of Autism services. This course provides an understanding of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and best practices for assisting children and adults with functional communication acquisition, social skill development, and behavior change. You will learn about Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), an empirically validated method for changing behaviors and teaching social and adaptive living skills.

This 65-hour, 5-week hybrid course includes 25 hours of in-person instruction and 40 hours' worth of online modules that you complete at your own pace. The in-person sessions meet on FTCC's campus on Monday and Wednesday evenings. You must attend at least 80% of the in-person sessions in order to earn a passing grade.

If you complete this course successfully, you will receive a Behavior Technician (BT) certificate and will be eligible for entry-level positions in the field. After the course, you may choose to complete additional assessments to become certified as a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board. Prevalence of Autism Spectrum Disorder and changes in insurance mandates drive high demand for ABA services and RBT recruitment.
